Set your music to a comfortable level first, then bring typing sounds up from near silence. If the keyboard layer needs to be loud to compete, a different theme or quieter music may be a better fit.
Use the app’s own volume
Your Mac output volume controls the device as a whole. TapNoise’s volume controls its own contribution. Keeping those roles separate makes it easier to preserve the music level you already like.
Start with the app slider low. Type a full paragraph, pause to read and correct a few words. Raise it only until you get the feedback you wanted.
Speech needs a different test
A podcast, video or spoken meeting contains information you need to follow. A busy typing texture may compete with it even when the overall volume is modest. Try release sounds off, a softer theme or silence for that task.
There is no universal ratio that suits every song, speaker and listener. A number copied from someone else’s setup will not account for your headphones or the recording’s loudness.
Save a simple switching habit
Pin a few useful themes in TapNoise rather than cycling through all 20 every time. For example, keep one for solo writing and one you find unobtrusive around speech. The choice is yours; the app does not automatically know which task needs which sound.
If you change audio devices, repeat the check. For output-specific problems, read Bluetooth typing sound delay and MacBook speaker playback.
