What this covers.
TapNoise is made by Rudra Satani. This page lists the third-party material in the app and the website, with the license each one is under. TapNoise’s own code is its own.
Links point to the original projects. They don’t mean the projects endorse TapNoise.
Sound sources.
Every sound in TapNoise comes from one of three sources.
- Made in code. 8-bit and Laser are synthesised by TapNoise. So is any sound a sound pack has no recording for.
- Recorded and generated with ElevenLabs. Thock, Creamy, Clicky, Typewriter and Bubble, plus the shared slap and MacBook sounds: the lid chimes, hinge creak, and charger and USB sounds. The source files were generated with ElevenLabs.
- Recorded. Silky, Hushed, Bumpy, Pillowy, Clunky, Chunky, Retro, Paws, Rain, Woody, Marbles, Piano and Kalimba. Piano and Kalimba play one recorded note, retuned into a scale.
Launch film music.
The music in the launch film is “Happy Beats / Business Moves vol. 12” by ende.app. It is used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license (CC BY 4.0).
Sensor research.
TapNoise reads two MacBook sensors that Apple doesn’t document. These projects documented the hardware details it relies on:
- LidAngleSensor by Sam Gold, under the Apache-2.0 license: the lid hinge sensor’s HID IDs and report layout.
- MacSlapApp (MIT) and spank by Tai Groot (MIT): how to power on the Apple silicon accelerometer and decode its reports, plus measured slap and typing thresholds.
Swift packages.
TapNoise has no third-party Swift packages. Its project file declares no package dependencies, and the app imports only Apple’s own frameworks, such as SwiftUI, AppKit, AVFoundation, CoreAudio and IOKit.
Online services.
TapNoise makes only two kinds of network call:
- Dodo Payments sells the license as merchant of record, and TapNoise uses Dodo’s service to activate and check a license key.
- The update check fetches
dl.tapnoise.com/latest.jsononce a day, to see whether a newer version is out. It sends no ID and no cookies.
See the privacy policy for what each one receives.
The website.
The website is built with Astro. It uses your Mac’s system fonts, so no font files are downloaded.
Apple and trademarks.
TapNoise is an independent Mac app. It is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Apple Inc. Mac, MacBook and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc.
Claude Code, Codex and Cursor are the names of their makers’ products. TapNoise’s Agent Sounds connect to them, and their names are used only to say which tools those sounds work with.
