One key works on up to 2 Macs at a time. To move it, open the same page on the old Mac and click Remove from this Mac, then activate it on the new one. TapNoise checks the key with Dodo now and then; being offline never locks it.

Input Monitoring is the one TapNoise needs. It tells TapNoise which key position went down, so it can play a sound. It does not give TapNoise the letters you type. If keys make no sound, open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Input Monitoring and make sure TapNoise is on.
Accessibility is optional. Knock commands use it to play, pause and lock; Clean Mode uses it to hold the keyboard and trackpad; the shortcut cheat sheet uses it to read the menus of the app in front. TapNoise never reads your windows or documents.

Can TapNoise see what I type?
No. TapNoise is told which key position went down, like "the third key on the second row", so it can play the right sound. It never sees letters, words or passwords, keeps only counts such as taps today, and has no analytics. The one network call is checking your license key.
Which Macs does it work on?
Any Mac with macOS 14 or later plays the key, click, charger and USB sounds, with the built-in keyboard or any keyboard you plug in. The motion features (harder press, louder sound; slaps; knocks; Guard Mode) need a MacBook with a motion sensor: MacBook Pro with M1 Pro or M1 Max and later, and MacBook Air with M2 and later. Lid sounds need a MacBook with a lid angle sensor, the same models.
Is there a delay between the key and the sound?
No. Sounds start within a few milliseconds of the key, faster than you can notice. With AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones, Bluetooth itself adds a delay, so TapNoise can play its sounds through the MacBook speakers instead.
Will people hear my keyboard in calls?
TapNoise goes quiet by itself while Zoom, FaceTime or any other app is using your microphone. You can turn that off in Settings if you like the company.
Does it slow my Mac down or drain the battery?
It is built to be light. On a MacBook Air, typing at full speed uses about 4% of one CPU core and around 30 MB of memory. The motion sensor slows down when you are not typing, and turns off with the features that use it.
Is there a free trial?
No. You can hear every sound in the demo on this page before you buy, and every purchase has a 14-day money-back guarantee. TapNoise is a one-time 7.99 US dollars plus tax, with no subscription.
Why does macOS ask me to confirm when I first open it?
TapNoise is signed by its maker but not notarized by Apple, so macOS asks once. Open System Settings, Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway next to TapNoise. The download page walks through it.
How do I unlock it after buying?
The license key arrives by email the moment you buy. Paste it in TapNoise Settings, License, Enter Key. One key works on up to 2 Macs, every update is included, and there is no subscription. Remove it from a Mac in the same place to move it to another one.
What if I don’t like it?
Ask for a refund within 14 days of buying and you get your money back. The demo on this page lets you hear every sound before you buy.
Who makes TapNoise?
TapNoise is made independently by Rudra Satani, who also makes NotchMind, the app that turns the MacBook notch into a home for your music, files and clipboard.
