TapNoise 0.2.2
License, Guard Mode and Agent Sounds fixes from a pre-launch audit, plus smaller fixes.
License
- A saved license keeps unlocking TapNoise for 30 days without a check with Dodo. After that, Settings asks you to connect to the internet to check it.
- A saved license belongs to the Mac it was activated on. On any other Mac, Settings says so and asks you to enter your key there.
- If TapNoise can’t read its saved license from the Keychain, Settings says so and suggests trying again later.
Guard Mode
- Quitting TapNoise while Guard Mode is on asks for Touch ID or your password first.
- Removing your license while Guard Mode is on asks for Touch ID or your password first.
- Guard Mode says what your Mac can sense. Without a motion sensor it sounds the charger alarm only, and it says so.
- Guard Mode saves your speaker volume and mute setting, and restores them when it turns off.
Agent Sounds
- Agent hooks no longer break when TapNoise is moved or deleted. If you move TapNoise, click Repair in Settings › Agents.
- A second copy of TapNoise no longer takes over the signals from a running one.
- TapNoise won’t edit an agent’s settings file it can’t read safely, and says why.
Keyboard, menu bar and Tappy
- TapNoise listens to the keyboard only while it is on, or while knock commands need it.
- The menu bar shows a crossed-out microphone whenever TapNoise has muted your microphone, including when a knock did it.
- The cheat sheet leaves out the Window and Open Recent menus.
- Break buddy plays its own stretch sound.
- Clicks pass through the empty space around Tappy, so they reach the windows behind it.
Updates and About
- Once a day, TapNoise checks for a newer version. When one is out, the menu bar panel shows Download TapNoise with the new version number. The check sends no ID and no cookies.
- About shows the version you are running.
- If macOS refuses a change to Open at login, the setting shows what macOS actually has.
TapNoise 0.2.1
The same app as 0.2.0, in a disk image that opens straight to the install window.
Download
- The disk image is no longer signed, so it opens straight to the window where you drag TapNoise into Applications.
- macOS still asks you to approve TapNoise once with Open Anyway. The install guide walks through it.
App
- No changes to the app itself since 0.2.0.
TapNoise 0.2.0
Agent Sounds: hear when Claude Code, Codex or Cursor is done, needs you, or hits an error.
Agent Sounds
- A sound when Claude Code, Codex or Cursor is done, when Claude Code needs your permission, and when Claude Code or Cursor hits an error.
- Knock twice, or click Tappy, to bring a waiting Claude Code window forward.
- Connect each agent in Settings › Agents. TapNoise backs up the agent’s settings file before it adds its one entry, and Remove takes it out again.
- Codex keeps any notify command you already had, and TapNoise runs it too.
TapNoise 0.1.0
The first public release: 20 sounds, Tappy on your desktop, and tools for your MacBook.
Sounds
- 20 sounds on two shelves: ten for keyboards, ten for fun. Pin up to six to the menu bar panel.
- Most sounds are recorded. 8-bit and Laser are made in code.
- Harder key presses sound louder, when the MacBook has a motion sensor.
- Slaps, the lid creak, and charger and USB chimes.
- Song Mode: with Piano, Kalimba or 8-bit, each key plays the next note of a tune.
Tappy on your desktop
- Tappy reacts to what you do. It sweats when you type fast, gets dizzy when slapped, eats when the charger goes in, and sleeps when you are away.
- Tappy levels up with your taps, unlocks six hats, keeps a daily streak and makes a weekly card to share.
Tools
- Knock commands: knock twice to play or pause, or to mute your microphone in a call.
- Clean Mode holds the keyboard and trackpad, so you can wipe them.
- A shortcut cheat sheet: hold ⌘ to see the shortcuts in the app you are using.
- Guard Mode sounds an alarm if your MacBook is lifted or its charger is pulled.
- Break buddy with stretch reminders, a nudge to type softer, and live typing speed.
License and privacy
- TapNoise is a one-time purchase with no trial: US$7.99 once, plus tax, on up to two Macs. Enter the key in Settings › License.
- Refunds are available within 14 days of buying.
- TapNoise sees which key position went down, never the characters you type. Input Monitoring is the one permission it needs.
- The first launch needs one approval, with Open Anyway in Privacy & Security.
