TapNoise has no account, no analytics and no TapNoise server. It needs the internet only for your license and for a daily update check.
Never leaves your Mac
- What you type. TapNoise is told which key position went down, such as “the third key on the second row”. It never sees letters, words or passwords.
- Your agents’ work. When you connect an agent, its hook sends only the agent’s name, whether it finished, needs you or failed, and the app it runs in. It never sends your code, prompts or replies.
Stored on your Mac
- Settings and counts in TapNoise’s preferences: taps and slaps today, Tappy’s experience and level, your hat and streak, typing speed by day, and how hard you usually type. Daily numbers are kept for the last 60 days.
- Your license key in your Mac’s Keychain, not in a preferences file.
- Agent entries. For each connected agent, one entry in its own settings file. TapNoise backs the file up first, to
~/Library/Application Support/TapNoise/Agent hook backups.
Motion and lid readings are used as they arrive and aren’t stored.
Sent over the network
TapNoise makes two kinds of request:
- Your license. When you activate a key, when TapNoise checks it (at launch and about every three days), and when you remove it from a Mac, TapNoise sends the key and a name for the Mac. That name is its model identifier and a random four-character tag, such as “Mac14,2 · 3F2A”. The requests go to Dodo Payments.
- Updates. About once a day, TapNoise checks
dl.tapnoise.comfor a newer version. The request carries no personal data.
