Connect a coding agent and TapNoise plays a sound when it finishes, needs you or hits an error. Tappy reacts too.
Connect an agent
- Open TapNoise Settings, then Agents. TapNoise finds the agents installed on this Mac.
- Click Connect next to the agent. To see the exact change first, open What TapNoise writes to and the file path under it.
- Restart any agent that’s already running, so it picks up the change.
If an agent says Not found on this Mac, install it first, then come back.
What TapNoise changes
TapNoise adds one entry to each agent’s own settings file, and leaves everything else in the file alone:
- Claude Code:
~/.claude/settings.json - Codex:
~/.codex/config.toml - Cursor:
~/.cursor/hooks.json
It backs each file up first, to ~/Library/Application Support/TapNoise/Agent hook backups. Click Remove to take TapNoise’s entries out again.
What each agent reports
- Claude Code reports when it’s done, when it needs you (permission prompts), and errors.
- Codex reports finished turns only.
- Cursor reports when it’s done, and errors. It has no hook for approvals yet.
To hear what each sound means, see what the agent sounds mean.
If an agent says it has moved, see repair an agent that says moved.
