How to install TapNoise on your Mac

Download TapNoise, move it to Applications, open it, then allow Input Monitoring so it can hear your keys. Works on macOS 14 or later.

Updated

TapNoise is a menu bar app for macOS 14 or later. You install it like any other Mac app, approve one permission, then activate your license.

Install it

  1. Go to the download page and choose Download TapNoise for Mac.
  2. Open the disk image and drag TapNoise into Applications.
  3. Open TapNoise from Applications, not from the disk image.

Do the move before you connect any coding agent. The agent hooks point at the copy you connect from, so an agent connected from the disk image needs a repair after you move the app. See repair an agent that says moved.

The first launch

macOS may stop the first launch, because TapNoise isn’t notarized by Apple yet. Approve it once with Open Anyway, then come back here.

TapNoise then sits in your menu bar as a small keycap, and Tappy appears on your desktop.

Allow Input Monitoring

Until TapNoise can hear your keys, the menu says Needs one permission. Follow how to allow TapNoise in Input Monitoring. It takes one switch.

Unlock it

TapNoise has no free version. Until a license is activated, it stays quiet and Tappy sleeps. Enter your key in Settings › License to activate it.
