How to remove agent sound hooks without losing other settings

Disconnect TapNoise from each agent before uninstalling, preserve unrelated configuration and understand why deleting an entire hooks file is unnecessary.

Disconnect an agent sound integration using its own Remove control before deleting the app. An agent configuration file may contain other hooks, preferences or commands you still need.

Remove the intended entry

In TapNoise Settings › Agents, choose Remove for each connected agent. The app removes its own connection instead of asking you to erase the whole settings file.

TapNoise stores backups in ~/Library/Application Support/TapNoise/Agent hook backups. Its removal logic restores a backup when appropriate, or removes only its entries when other settings have changed since connection.

Keep later edits intact

Do not replace a current config with an old backup without comparing them. Work added after the backup could otherwise disappear. JSON formatting or TOML comments may also differ even when the underlying settings are similar.

For a manual hook you installed separately, use that tool’s documentation and remove only the command you recognise. TapNoise’s Remove control is not a general cleaner for other utilities.

Verify after removal

Start a fresh agent session and confirm your ordinary workflow still works. If you had another notification command, test that it remains available.

Then follow the uninstall guide for the app and local data you actually want to remove. If you simply moved the app, Repair may be the correct action instead of disconnecting every integration.
