How to choose a break reminder interval in TapNoise

Compare TapNoise's 30-, 50- and 90-minute reminder options, account for time away and choose a nudge you will actually respond to during normal work.

Choose a break interval based on your actual work pattern and whether you respond to the reminder. TapNoise offers 30, 50 and 90 minutes; 50 is the default, not a universal recommendation for every person.

Start with a normal day

Open Settings › General › Break buddy and inspect Remind me after. Pick one interval and leave the rest of your setup unchanged while you try it.

Notice when the nudge arrives. Does it help you save your place and step away, or does it consistently land in the middle of a short task that already has a natural ending?

Count real pauses

TapNoise treats stepping away for five minutes as a break. That means the next reminder need not follow the same schedule as a simple wall-clock timer.

Reading without typing, switching tasks and leaving the Mac are different patterns. If you need a precise countdown for a specific exercise or meeting, use an explicit timer rather than inferring it from a reminder app.

Keep the health claims modest

A reminder can prompt a pause, but it cannot evaluate posture or diagnose strain. If work causes discomfort, do not keep typing to reach a streak or wait for a software nudge before stopping.

For a separate timer-based approach, use Clock. If the problem is pressure to keep typing rather than forgetting time, rethink the WPM target.
