Cursor and TapNoise.
A sound when a Cursor agent finishes its turn or fails, in the same keyboard theme as the rest of TapNoise.
What happens
- Done when a Cursor turn completes: the done phrase plays, and Tappy celebrates.
- Error when a turn fails: the error phrase plays.
- Stop a turn yourself and nothing plays, because you’re already there.
- There’s no needs-you sound. Cursor has no hook for approvals yet.
- Knock to answer doesn’t apply, for the same reason.
Set it up
- Open TapNoise from Applications. Connect is refused while it runs from the disk image.
- Open Settings › Agents. Under Agent sounds, make sure Play agent sounds is on. It is on by default.
- Under Connect your agents, click Connect next to Cursor.
- To see the change first, open What TapNoise writes to ~/.cursor/hooks.json.
- Restart any Cursor agent that was already running, so it picks up the change.
Good to know
- TapNoise adds one entry to the stop list under hooks, after any hooks you already have. If the file is empty, it also sets the file’s version to 1.
- Cursor’s stop hook says whether the turn completed or failed, and TapNoise plays the sound to match.
- Click Remove to take TapNoise’s entry out. The rest of the file stays as it was.
- Sounds need a TapNoise license. They stay silent during a call while Quiet during calls is on.
Questions
Why doesn’t Cursor have a needs-you sound?
Cursor doesn’t offer a hook for approvals yet, so TapNoise can only hear when a turn is done or has failed.
Does it play when I stop an agent?
No. If you stop a turn yourself, TapNoise stays quiet, because you’re already there.
Does TapNoise read my Cursor chats?
No. The hook reads only how the turn ended, and sends TapNoise the agent’s name, that event and the app it runs in.
