What to check before granting a typing app permissions

Review a keyboard sound app's data handling, network activity, storage and uninstall process before you allow it to monitor input on your Mac.

Before granting a typing app Input Monitoring, read what it does with keyboard events. macOS controls whether an app gets access; the app’s implementation and privacy policy determine how it uses that access.

Ask four specific questions

Does the app process key positions, text or both? Does it store an activity history? Does anything leave the Mac? Can you remove the app and its integration files cleanly?

Look for concrete answers rather than a general “private” badge. A cloud account, analytics system and local preference file have different implications. A license check also uses the network even if typing data stays local.

Separate required and optional access

An app may need Input Monitoring for typing feedback while offering optional features that use Accessibility. You should be able to understand each request in relation to a feature you plan to use.

Do not grant Full Disk Access, microphone access or another broad permission merely because it appears during unrelated troubleshooting. Check the product’s documented requirement first.

TapNoise’s current data model

TapNoise processes key positions and keeps local counts, not typed words. Its documented network requests are license checks with Dodo Payments and update checks. Its agent hook passes status information rather than prompts or code.

These are claims about TapNoise’s implementation, not limits built into Input Monitoring itself. Read what stays on your Mac and the privacy policy before deciding. The broader Input Monitoring guide explains the macOS permission.
