Typing stats
See how fast you type, as you type.
Tappy shows your words per minute under it while you type. The Stats page keeps your best speeds, a week of averages and your level, all on your Mac.
TapNoise works out words per minute from your last 50 typing keys, counting five keys to a word. Pauses longer than a second and a half don’t count, so stopping to think doesn’t drag the number down.
The Stats page shows Now, Best today and Best ever. Your week is a chart of your average speed for each of the last seven days, and the week card can be copied or saved.
Stats also counts today’s taps and slaps, and your streak: days in a row with at least 500 taps.
Live under Tappy
Your speed appears as you type, with a New record message when you beat your best.
Best today and ever
Two figures, both kept on your Mac.
Streaks
Days in a row with at least 500 taps.

Options.
Typing speed has no settings of its own. These are the numbers that feed it.
- Speed under Tappy
Words per minute under Tappy as you type. Shown while Tappy is on screen.
- Streak goal
500 taps in one day keep a streak going.
- XP
1 per key press and 10 per slap. Feeds Tappy’s level.
Limits.
- The first reading needs 50 typing keys. Speeds above 220 words per minute are ignored, since those are usually key repeat or a script.
- Letters, numbers, punctuation, Space and Return count. Delete, Tab, Caps Lock and Shift don’t.
- Counting stops while Sounds is off, and the cards stay locked until TapNoise is unlocked.
Questions.
Does TapNoise record what I type?
No. It counts key presses and their timing, never letters or words. The totals stay on your Mac.
What counts as a streak?
Days in a row with at least 500 taps. Type 500 keys in a day to start one.
